Broom

This morning I took myself up the track behind the house to look at the view on the other side of the mountain. The slopes are decked in waving broom and the remains of wild flowers. It had been unseasonably hot a couple of weeks earlier and so the spring flora did not last very long this year. Lower down the olive trees, avocados, almonds and citrus trees looked very green and healthy. Since the economic slump in Spain many wild parts in the mountains have been cultivated and people are making a living from their plots of land. Most country families own land somewhere and now they are making good use of it while jobs are scarce. Very good to see.
