Flotation Tank Removal
Launching a jacket is considered to be a quite critical operation. The jacket weighs more or less 9000 tons and is not really designed to float. Therefore floatation tanks are attached to both sides of the jacket just for launching and upending purposes.
They are to be removed when the jacket is stable upright on the bottom. Thats the situation we have now, so the tanks can be removed. We are assisting with a steering line connected to the tank to prevent it from twisting when it comes off. The weight of the tank is about 600 tons (empty)
By the way; if you want to see a short movie of the launch of this jacket three days ago, check this Site
