Yikes, spikes!

This agave plant grows on a rocky slope in the yard, putting down roots into the bit of soil that is there. At first glance, all you see is the succulent spikes with their spiny edges and pointed tip. On larger species, it is said that the tip can pierce to the bone. When you look more closely at the spikes, you notice the way nature has carved some subtle dimension into their form. I like how the plant's own shadows add to the impact of the photo. I added a little contrast and definition to emphasize the sculptural look of the plant's growth pattern.
