"Pinch-hitter"

Pinch-hitter is a substitute batter. Well, this isn't baseball but in aviation a pinch-hitter is a substitute pilot. Most of the time you may fly with a pilot who let's you play with the controls when you are safely up at altitude. But occasionally (very infrequently, actually) a time may arise in which you need to take over for a pilot who is incompacitated. Would you be ready to step up, to be that pinch-hitter?
Tomorrow I get the opportunity to teach people to be ready to do just that-to fly the airplane, communicate with ATC and safely land. Seems like a lot to cover in one night but I'll give it my best shot.
