Two Tone Sky

Today the smoke and wind currents created a continuously changing sky color. We took many pictures, trying to get the real color, and this one was the closest. However, with three different cameras and experimenting with every type of setting we could think of, we could not get the red color of the sun to show. It was actually a much darker red than the clouds/smoke, but always appeared lighter. Any suggestions? Does this require some kind of filter?
Not one person has been injured nor any structures destroyed. Amazing work, firefighters!
