May Bug, Cockchafer
Melolontha melolontha
Was gardening this afternoon and came across this beautiful little beasty. Its a cockchafer or as it is more commonly known a maybug. It was on a stem fairy close to the ground so it might possibly have just emerged after spending about 3 years as a white grub eating roots. I’m sure it’s a female so she might have been egg laying. These are the bugs that fly in through the open window attracted by light and then bump into everything because they don’t fly very well.
