The Harbour Wall Clovelly
We have two very nice people staying with us Mireille and her 13 year old grandson Mathis. Mereille doesn’t speak any english but Mathis is very good so between the four of us we can usually sort it out but that is part of the fun!
We met the others in the village at 8.15 to board the coach and proceeded to the Atlantic Village factory outlet near Bideford where I had an excellent cup of coffee – it is hard, but I want to be positive about that experience.
A couple of hours later we boarded the coach and took a short journey to Abbotsham where the committee had hired the village hall for our picnic. Within minutes of arriving the tables and chairs were out and the most amazing array of picnic lunches appeared, some with wine and some without.
Then we were on our way to Clovelly. This is a privately owned village which you can enter at a cost of £6.75. It is a very pretty place with a steep walk down to the harbour. It was full of visitors and is over commercialised but we had a pleasant couple of hours there. The sun finally came out as we were leaving. We walked back up to the top although a landrover will get back up there in a couple of minutes for £2.50 and some were very pleased to pay that.
It is over 30 year since I last visited Clovelly and I have no desire to return.
Back home for 6.00pm, a swift turnaround and down to the village pub where 13 of us met for fish and chips. Very good it was too. A more relaxing day tomorrow.
Some more Clovelly photos on flickr.
