Alderton churchyard, Wiltshire
After leaving Bristol with Helena, following her very short photography course, and a few new bits of camera gear which I bought whilst waiting for her, we went for a walk.
Helena had thought this village was where a favourite artist of hers had once lived, but that turned out to be a few miles away. Instead we wandered through the very quiet lanes of the village until we came across the church. My attention had been drawn to a large pond on the other side of the road, where I could see swallows flying around and over the water and i wanted to try to catch them in flight. So I only stayed for a few minutes in the graveyard and then the interior of the church before heading for the pond. I did like these colours and textures of the lichens on the gravestones so took a couple of shots.
As it happened the swallows were very flighty and I didn't manage any good shots. So the lichens have won out over the beautiful large blue flowering clematis plants I saw in one of the villager's gardens. The other, and actual, village pond at the opposite end to the church was a bit twee but did have some interesting varieties of ducks, probably mandarins according to Helena. Next time we shall go to Alderley, close to Wotton–under–Edge.
