The Bay Horse Bramham
The Bay Horse Inn at Bramham was once a major coaching stop on the Great North Road which ran through the village.
The facade of the building still bears the Bay Horse moulding. Sadly it looks as though that is beginning to crumble - a large chunk is breaking away (underneath rear hooves). I photographed this back in February and this was not evident.
Following the building of the first bypass, trade dwindled and following a series of 'unsavoury incidents' (description from local paper of the time) it was closed, after the police decided to withdraw the licence, after 250 years of trade.
The police report described the building as in a generally poor condition and the interior in appalling state, poorly decorated and furnished and paper peeling off the walls....
At the time there were three other pubs in the village (now only two) and it was felt that the loss of the inn would not be a hardship.
