.....the road to Hell......

Another restless night...another bright sunny day.....another early start...this time to load the cars for the trip home.
Left at 10.10......a 7 hour journey....including a couple of stops.

Called at the gift shop for a couple of presents....topped up the fuel....checked the tyres......and off. Up the glen....across Rannoch Moor.....Crianlarick ......onto the banks of Loch Lomond....a little hold up for some roadworks..........but we expected this...the road works were in operation last Saturday.......a stop at Luss for a spot of lunch....across the Erskine Bridge....onto the M8 through Glasgow...onto the M74...heading for England....junction 4...........screeching halt...road works......ON A SATURDAY...........AT THE END OF A HOLIDAY WEEK........ON THE MAJOR ROUTE FOR TOURISTS RETURNING HOME FROM THE WESTERN SIDE OF SCOTLAND..........texted the S&H and told hm to use his satnav to get off the motorway and detour round the hold up.

The road works were at junction 6..........the S&H managed to get off at J5...we were stuck.....it took over three hours to travel less than 6 miles...and when we got to the road works?

About a mile of road being resurfaced...........sign said carriage ways closed on Friday 30th....for three days......we saw 7 vehicles parked up.....AND NOT ONE SINGLE, SOLITARY WORKER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

When we cleared the works the motorway cleared too...we had to stop for liquids.....and then we could put our foot down.......by averaging about 85mph we managed to get home just after 8.00..............10 hours after we set off. It's a shade under 300 miles door to door...about 240 on motorways...so in theory the journey can be completed in 4 hours without breaking the speed limit or stops....allowing 7 hours should make for a comfortable journey............but 10 effing hours!!!???

I love Scotland....I like the Scots....some of our family live in Scotkand...some are Scots living here........some of my best friends are SCots....I think they have the best anthem in the 6 Nations rugby..........but I have to say.....an independent country.............you can't even manage an independent motorway..........if the same wooly headed thinking that closed a major route...on one of the busiest weekends of the year.......gets control of laws, taxes, bdugets and all the other myriad tasks needed to run a country........then you're buggered!!

A very knackered Das vidanya moy padruga.

p.s. I'll catch up with the comments tomorrow, I've already cried off fishing the way my knee is shredded!
