On the South Downs Way
This is likely to be the very last picture on the Samsung which has now pretty well packed up completely! The shutter button does not work and it has been getting slower and slower for a while, but it worked fairly well last week. The Polaroid is OK, but the images are not always sharp, so I will have to use that and the Fuji which does take good shots. Neither have the convenience of size that the little compact had for me, however. I have got too used to having compact cameras after using a clunky film SLR for most of my photographic experience. It's strange really as I'm not particularly interested in having hi spec equipment and doing technical stuff. I am often derided for being a recorder of things - but for me that IS what photography is about. Being a historian, I am naturally drawn to recording things that may disappear or having a record of what something looks like. With so much rapid and relentless change in daily life, much of which isn't always necessary, I think it's important to photograph a wide range of subject matter.
This view is taken looking east along the South Downs Way this afternoon towards Chantry Hill. This has changed very little over the years. The mark in the picture appears to be a stray Bombus lapidarius that decided to fly across the lens as I took the picture!
