Fun in the Sun
A few weeks ago I was given the dubious honour, or rather the prime responsibility, for co-ordinating this year's Summer Fair at our church. Various people - and I wasn't one of them - had offered to help run the fete, but none of them was willing to take on the overall role of organising it.
Muggins here was caught in a moment of lapsed concentration back at the start of April and foolishly said "yes" when asked. The fact that I was trying to tie up the loose ends of my birthday celebrations taking place later that month was just a minor inconvenience.
Well, on Saturday 31 May, we got there. So what if the week before showed me some of the more ungracious sides of human nature from one or two individuals (let's give them the benefit of the doubt and just put it down to them being stressed); several stall-holders didn't turn up on the day and there were the usual last-minute panics - but the sun shone, there was a good turn-out of people and we made a good sum of money for church funds.
In short, the afternoon was fun and everything went well. But please remind me to book a holiday for the end of May / beginning of June next year.
