My Friend the Published Author

A big day for my friend Sue Woolmans, who works in our little team of Studio Managers at the BBC. She is the co-author with Greg King of a new book called "The Assassination of the Archduke". It was the Archduke Franz Fredinand's assassination in Sarajevo in June 1914, alongside his beloved wife Sophie, which ignited World War I. The hardback version was published last autumn, and today saw the UK launch of the paperback. The book has been written with the co-operation and blessing of the Archduke's descendants, and tells his personal story - in particular how he married Sophie for love against royal protocol and his family's wishes.

There was chocolate cake and prosecco for our team at lunchtime to celebrate the paperback release. How Sue managed to fit in writing such a meticulously well-researched book with the hectically busy job we do I'll never know. Brilliantly done, Sue - we're proud of you!
