Peeping through.....

What a beautiful day it has been. Although apart from an excursion with the camera I have been decorating the bathroom cupboard.

Pickering castle looked at its very best with the limestone walls set against the blue sky. The castle dates back to Norman times and was originally built in wood which was rebuilt in stone during the early part of the 12th century.

It is still very well preserved due to being largely unaffected by the Wars of the Roses and the Civil War. The biggest threat was local people removing the stone to build cottages. This view is through the doorway on the site of the original gateway. You can just see the original bailey protecting the motte and keep.

Have a good weekend.
