Scottish Gallery of Modern Art - The Colourists

Anyone out there who was teacher in Edinburgh or Lothian Region in the 70s or 80s will be familiar with this building as Dean Education Centre, venue for training courses at that time. Today it is one of the galleries of the National Galleries of Scotland and over recent years has been displaying exhibitions of those artists known as the Scottish Colourists. The last in this series features probably the most prolific of these, J.D. Fergusson. His pictures are sometimes big and vibrant and his portraits are I think particularly stunning. Of the principal colourists, the others being Cadell and Peploe, I think Fergusson makes the most lasting impression.
