The White Horse of Kilburn

After the most wonderful week visiting Cumbria we sadly had to say goodbye to this stunning area of England. On the way home we came off the A1 to visit the Mouseman of Kilburn and as we approached the village we saw this stunning white horse cut into the hillside. Unlike the South Downs there is no chalk on the hillside above Kilburn so the horse was cut on a steep rocky slope with a grey limey sandstone base and over the last 150 years the figure became severely eroded, and has required constant tlc to keep it visible from afar.
The Mouseman of Kilburn museum is very interesting to visit and you are able to watch the craftsmen at work. Unfortunately a deep pocket is required to purchase the items on display.
I have posted a journal for the 30th May (the first day of our holiday) and will be back blipping the remainder of the week during the next few days, hope you enjoy our trip to Cumbria too.
