Raising The Flag
Directly outside our window is Mexico City's Zocalo. In the middle of that square flies one of the largest flags I have ever seen. Twice each day, seven truck loads of military arrive to either raise or lower this massive flag in a half hour ceremony full of pomp and precision. As we are changing hotels today, this was the last time we were able to witness this extravaganza. The past two days the flag holders were in line behind the flagpole, but today the wind had shifted and they lined up perpendicular to their usual position. It made for a great shot as the flag was slowly raised into this perfect triangle of color, surrounded by dozens of saluting soldiers. A stirring way to start the day.
