Another classic Mediterranean bird

Subltle it ain't but showy it is - designed by committee is one's initial thought. Not content with being bright pink, the Hoopoe has striking black and white wings and tali, flies like a butterfly, has a ridiculous bill and a crest that can only be called bizarre. You see one and you don't miss it!
Not so good is their habit of eating dung beetles out of dung and their crap smells positively revolting, perhaps not surprisingly.
We caught two today - one in the morning session and one near the accommodation where I put up some nets myself in the afternoon,
