Black-eared Wheatear

You might have hoped that having left Antikythera, I might stop taking bird shots. However I couldn't resist this one of a Black-eared Wheatear in the village where we are now staying on Kythera.
We left Antikythera two hours late last night and arrived in Kythera just gone midnight at the port that is not in any town. I must admit I was slightly concerned and envisaged us getting sleeping bags out on the beach. However one of the birding girls, Sophia, had spoken with a hotel owner she had stayed with and assured us it would be OK.
We arrived to a packed quay where those trying to board were having to be seriously marshalled by the police. There have just been elections and most Greeks go home to vote. This crush on the pier was those people now trying to get home. Sure enough however as Sophia assured us, someone came to find us, drove us to a very comfortable hotel and all was well.
In the morning we walked around the small village and then hired a car and pottered around a section of the island. Quite a lot of history, the best lunch we have had to date but not many beaches.
Bizarrely the hotel owner was all over the shop in the evening in tears - about the results of the election it transpired. I was trying to imagine anyone bursting into tears because (when?) David Cameron failed to get re-elected but struggled to do so - aside from David Cameron himself.
Tricia went for an early morning swim but on entering the water was slightly disturbed - to say the least - a medium sixed fin swimming just off-shore. She soon decided the swimming was not what she wanted to do. I have to say I looked out through the binoculars and there was some finned fish of reasonable size there.
