Tha Giant's Causey
Today’s blip is of part of the Giant’s Causeway, a World Heritage Site and a Northern Ireland National Nature Reserve. Today it is owned and managed by the National Trust. According to legend, Irish giant Finn MacCool (aka Fionn mac Cumhaill) built the causeway across the North Channel to fight the Scottish giant Benandonner. Fionn defeated Benandonner through the use of deceit and Benandonner fled back to Scotland, tearing up the causeway behind him so that Finn could not follow him. You’ll find the story through Google (other explanations are available), and you’ll find the Causeway in County Antrim on the northeast coast of Northern Ireland, just outside the town of Bushmills, home to the oldest licensed (and eponymous) distillery in the world.
