Thistle Down

By Ethel

Hills of Home

Cliffs along the mountains,
And hawks sail over them.
Crumbling into slide-rocks,
Like studded, garnet gems.

I often climbed this mountain,
When my feet were young.
And from the top I gazed around,
To see how other mountains swung.

My eyes went many miles away,
Admiring every hue.
And the skirt of many ranges,
Hung in that distant blue.

I looked behind the mountains,
That often stood in shade.
I studied lime-stone stretches,
And how they had been made.

Red-rock took off to the floor,
And blotched down from the dome.
You see...I love each part of them,
They are the...Hills of Home.
