Thistle Down

By Ethel

They Laughed

Once they laughed,
On a one-way track.
They laughed at the rations,
That laid on their backs.

And they laughed indeed,
At a dragging stick.
It was a frivolous trick,
And they laughed.

The wheel was invented,
It ran around.
Upon the ground,
And they laughed.

It was only a cart,
It had two wheels.
It run at their heels,
And they laughed.

The limousine came,
It was a chariot of tin.
They stood with a grin,
And they laughed.
