SUMMER MEADOW
As I walk upon the green grassy English summer meadow
The blue of the sky is splattered with creamy white clouds broken only by a yellow sun the colours and sounds of nature are all around me
High above the skylark sings her song.
As she harmonises with the reed warblers melody
In the distance a cuckoo
Echo's his cry looking for a nest to borrow.
From the corner of my eye I spy a field mouse, his whiskers flicking
Breeze's tickle the leaves of the mighty oak tree
Making them giggle with joy, as squirrels and woodpeckers busy themselves
On outstretched branches.
My nostrils fill with the perfume of sweet clover and buttercups.
While sheep and cows sound their voice to neighbouring meadows
And comfort and suckle their young.
The reflection on the waters of the stream smile at me
Dragonfly's hover and then darting from side to side
Play with the movement of the flow,
Minnow's fight the waters run as they make there way up stream,
As the kingfisher looks on, the natter-jack toad crock for a mate,
And water voles nibble on reeds.
OK, I admit that the verse rather over does what this afternoon was like but its been lovely strolling through this summer meadow after lunch (crab, prawns & smoke salmon....delicious), more views of this NIDDERDALE MEADOWcan be found on the link
