At the going down of the sun...
Attended a D-Day concert which was beamed from the Albert Hall in London to over 200 cinemas in the UK. It was very well done and the music was amazing. But the performance of the night, forget Katherine Jenkins and the Military wives choir (good but not as emotive), was given by an eighty five year old veteran, now a Folk Singer, called Jim Radford, who was a 15 year old galley boy on a ship bound for France.
His song, which he wrote himself after travelling back to France many years later, was called The Shores of Normandy. When he finished singing, the whole of the Albert Hall gave him and standing ovation. Even us guys in the cinema started clapping and I would imagine most in tears. It was one of these spine tingling performances that no one will forget.
After dropping mum off, we decided that it was too beautiful a night to go home so picked up Breagha and headed off in the car to Tibbermore to try and catch the sunset at my favourite tree. Kind of reflects the emotions of the day....
