End of the day

Another bitterly cold start to the day, but driving to church before 8 am, it was like a winter wonderland - all the trees were covered in white, from freezing mist. Unfortunately there wasn't time to stop for a photograph, as we have to be at church for 8 am for choir practice before 8.45 service. Then we have to hang around during the 2nd service , to sing at the third service at 10.45. So by the time we returned home, most of the trees had already lost their white coating. Roger went out and did a bit of grocery shopping for me, while I finished doing Laura's laundry and ironing for her. I did a new recipe for lunch - a recipe Jen had done for us over Christmas which we all really enjoyed. After lunch I made a smoked salmon dip ready for this evening, helped Laura put her stuff in the car, then Roger and I said our goodbyes to Laura and headed off for a quick bit of exercise at the gym. This evening we were out at dinner at friends from church. It's a program called Dinners for 6, 7 and 8, and runs once a month from January through April. If you're interested in participating, you put your name down, and the month you would like to host. The names are fed into a computer program, which comes up with different groups of 6, 7 or 8 each month. The month you host, you call the people on your list and agree on a date and time, and on the day you provide the main dish, and the guests bring an appetizer, salad or dessert. Its a fun way of meeting other people in the church, as since there are three services you tend not to know many people who come to the other services, especially with our current format where there is very little time between services. Tonight, I. (our hostess) had actually invited a few extra people, so there were actually 11 of us. As it happened, I did know everyone this evening, except for one of the husbands, though two of the couples I didn't know that well. It was a great evening, and we returned home very well fed! I still didn't have a blip for the day, so we stopped at one of our local shopping areas on the way home, and I took a picture of the clock tower and some of the lights, which they tend to leave on for at least a month after Christmas.
