My Life in A&E

By gilvratina

Left the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg today. I had a really cool time, although I could definitely do with a couple of peaceful days.

So, I drank a fair amount of Bofferding (or Bifferdong, if you'd rather), laughed a lot and learnt how to play "Uno".....which turns out to be "Black Five" for children. I was taught by Mr P and he seemed to play with a moveable feast of rules. Very suspicious.

I also met some new people and perhaps strengthened some existing ties.

I was pretty sure that the journey home couldn't be as perfect as the journey there. And I was right. Firstly, I got the time wrong and it was actually 20 minutes earlier than I thought. Luckily the hotel was a minute's walk from the station.

So I took the bus to Saarbrücken with fellow cast member B and then onto what became known as "sauna train to Mannheim", which is where this picture was taken as I desperately tried to get some air.

So far so good (apart from the sauna bit). Then I was instructed to stay on the train till Heidelberg because my train from Mannheim had been cancelled. I had 30 unexpected minutes in Heidelberg - utterly useless for sightseeing - and then onto a train back to Munich which appeared to already have been been delayed by 70 minutes.

Of course I got home, about an hour later than planned. It would seem likely that the rail chaos today was caused by the storms near Essen, where sadly 6 people died.

The storms are heading south tomorrow, apparently.
