On the Pond 1 - Ashe Court Ponds, Horsham

I thought I would start an occasional series on various ponds and lakes round about the local area.

There are a series of ponds on the eastern side of Horsham that are surrounded by houses but are extremely pleasant with trees and lawns going down to the banks and made up paths around one side popular with local residents. This pond had some Mallard Ducks on it but due to the trees around it, not a lot of visible wildlife.

This area once formed part of Horsham Common. As this became enclosed and developed in the 19th Century, an extensive brickyard was started up and these ponds I believe are the flooded clay pits from the brickworks. I had never before visited these ponds and there appeared to be two linked by a bridge, with the southernmost pond being much narrower and hemmed in by trees and bushes. This view is looking roughly north up the northernmost pond.
