Return to the North

Ignore the spelling!

Well what a bloody awesome day I've had today- terrifyingly awesome!

Soon after I arrived in Tui I was asked by the local cop if we would be interested in doing a 'mock' lockdown so that the Southland Armed Defenders Squad could run it as an exercise.
Well today was the day!!!!!
So at 1.15pm the bosses came in and gave us a run down then went into our year 9-13 classes (age 14 upwards) and told them about what roles they wanted them to play. Then it all kicked off. Two shooters ran into the school - yes real guns firing blanks! Rather than run into the classrooms and really scare the kids they fired the guns outside- I was an observer withe the cops stood 15ft away from the shooters. Feck the noise of sawn off shotguns being fired is LOUD!
Then it was organised pandemonium as the Armed Defenders came in to hunt the shooters and make the classrooms safe!

It was scary as shit and we all knew it wasn't real - really brought home what it would be like for real!
It has also helped us a a a school because we now have an idea about what we can do to aid the police if a situation arose for real.

As for the photo- would have loved to have blipped the very sexy Armed Defenders but no photos allowed of course. The weather her is crap and it's been dark both ends of my day so......

This was a poster that two girls did yesterday lunchtime - they were bored so did posters for the principal - alas they can't spell. Mind you after a pretty tough start to my principal ship it was really cool to get something so sweet given to me, spelling or not :-)
