Power play
One of the interesting differences about about my new home in NZ is the proliferation of poles carrying power, telephony, and electricity for street lighting and tram cars.
Back in the UK most of these services - even in relatively remote rural areas - are buried underground: unseen, unheard, unnoticed. Here, they are everywhere and form a very distinct part of the visual landscape.
At first I was irritated at the way in which aerial cables would inevitably get in the way of a shot: creating long, ugly black lines across the frame like some toddler scrawling with a thick black crayon.
Now, I've been noticing them more, and the patterns they create, and the textures on the poles, and the weird devices they carry, and they way they lend themselves to a little photo manipulation ;-)
This one is for the cable guys.
