Fabulous ......
Had the most amazing Dragon Boat practice on the river this evening...spectacular weather and we were put thro our paces that's for sure. I'm exhausted but so content!
Today was also the Memorial service for my dear and wonderful friend Glenn . It took place in Perth Ontario, so i was unable to go....here is what i sent with a friend to read out for me:
My thoughts on Glenn
Like everyone here today, I have many memories to share...but my strongest and most enduring one is of the first time I experienced dancing with this amazing spirit of a man! dancing with Glenn, whether at shows, parties or community events....it was always so easy to be in the zone with him! To me, dancing was the metaphor for the way he channeled energy into his life. Music running thro him, body moving to his way of being in this world, responding to the other, going inside to find self!
It was spring of 1983, nearing the end of our first year at Sheridan School of Craft and Design. Both so exuberant in our discoveries of clay. We were looking for apprenticeships for the upcoming summer....i already had a position with the wonderful and well established Scott Barnum – and Glenn had approached Don Zver. The day came when we headed out to Don's studio for the interview. Glenn was so anxious and worried....he was so excited at the prospect of working for this well known and much loved potter. The interview went well, and after a couple of hours, he emerged with this enormous smile on his face! On our way back from Don's we passed a very shabby looking drinking hole in a somewhat rural area. There was a dance taking place that evening! We headed inside, it was indeed very 'rural'....but the music was playing and after a beer or 2 - We took to the dance floor....dancing like a pair of crazy fools.....arms and legs akimbo, zooming across the floor....we were art students after all!!! we got some very strange looks, but we were too high on life to care! That is how Glenn danced....with pure vitality and passion, like no one was watching.....and Absolutely in line with the way he lived his life.
No matter what he was dealing with....he was 100% present! Whether dancing, playing...making pots or being the wonderful friend he was......he was always right there.....with his total dedication to being present to whatever was at hand.
Glenn has left an incredible legacy, not only in the many thousands of beautiful pots he has made over the past 30 years..... but even more so in his sons, Kaydn and Taevan. They have been infused with his loving and most generous spirit......i have witnessed such a presence within them, born from Glenn's passionate and committed way of living his life. They will remind us all of how fabulous this man was....how loving and generous and kind he was......
I'll continue dancing in my studio with Glenn in my heart...he was one of a kind, absolutely no doubt!
Most of the day he wasn't very far from my thoughts.
