Fathers Day
Chris went over to see his Dad at lunchtime, and I cooked a huge roast chicken lunch. This is not my forte so was impressed with my efforts though my roast potatoes will never be as good at Chris's.
Anyway, Chris had presents when he got back. As quite a last minute extra gift I picked up a copy of One Night in Turin for £2.99 in HMV. He loved it - and we ended up watching it in the afternoon (we called it an SMP). I had forgotten how much I remembered if you see what I mean. That idiot Colin Moynehan (spelling that wrong I know), the hooliganism, Heysel, the way the press attacked the team. I'm not much into football as such but it was both tragic and moving to see Gazza from those times, the constant talk of whether or not his 'temperament' was right for the pressures of the World Cup. In retrospect you can see he was a train wreck, desperately needing help but undiagnosed and heading for disaster, egged on by the fans, the press and his idiotic drinking buddies. Betsy wanted to know what happened with his career after Italia '90, and you could tell she wanted the happy ending - World Cup Glory in '94, but obviously that wasn't how it played out.
A great documentary, not just about football but about the press and politics too.
