Lake Hood Walkabout

Of course, if you come to visit us in Anchorage you are obligated to talk the Lake Hood walkabout to see the floatplanes and amphibian aircraft take off and land on the lake.

This little cub on floats is personally owned, probably used to fly out to a small lake cabin or favorite fishing spot.

At this end of the lake the float planes will stage and get ready to take off to the west.

Lake Hood Seaplane Base is reported to be the busiest seaplane base in the world, at least in the summer, handles near 200 takeoffs and water landings per day. There is a gravel airstrip directly adjacent for the little guys and Anchorage International Airport is close by for the heavies.

For some time we watched the incoming and outgoing aircraft manage the water of the lake, wanting to get a perfect landing or takeoff shot, the pilots were just not cooperating. Maybe next time.
