From Longsight to Smethwick

The first thing I saw as I left the train station at Smethwick Rolfe Street was this attractive mosque. Smethwick and surrounding areas very like Longsight, the only difference in the ethnic mix being a healthy Sikh population. I do like these vibrant communities, although they would have been unrecognisable to my great-grandfather when he was city engineer of nearby West Bromwich at the end of the Nineteenth Century.
