Mission Beach

One of my favorite places to go walking is Mission Beach. Not only is the scenery incredible, but there is always so much life and activity going on. The entire beach is lined with vacation rentals, so there is no shortage of tourist families playing in the sand, barbequing, and drinking on their patios. Then there are the locals, who come to surf and to tan, or to skateboard and bike down the beach path. And that is just the beginning, because you never know what you might find: volleyball games, group yoga, jogging teams, musicians, craftsmen, and a whole variety of local flavor. It is different every time you go, which keeps it fresh and exciting. I like to go right near sun down, when the weather is coolest and you can watch the sun slowly sink into the sea. It is a very different vibe during this time then it is earlier in the day. Families are starting to pack it in, many are gathering for dinner and you can smell the barbeques, there are more locals who have come out to walk their dogs or stroll romantically near the sunset, and there is the night time bar crowd starting to gather, heading out for drinks and dancing at one of the beach nightspots. It is my favorite time of day at the beach.
