Walking back in time

The final leg of the 'avondvierdaagse' today.
For the past four days lots of schoolchildren and (sport-)clubs walked every evening a distance of 5 or 10 kilometres. And today is the last one, accompanied with fanfares.

Throughout the route people are welcoming the walkers with flowers and candy.

This event has been going on for years and years now, so I wondered how it would have looked like all those years ago. Probably a bit like this....(exept maybe for the scooter...)
