Resting between turns

As I arrived at the allotment this afternoon this carriage was parked up waiting for the wedding service in the church to end so that the bride and groom could be whisked away to their reception.

The smaller horse on the left was obviously an old hand at this sort of thing, waiting patiently and accepting a bit of attention as if it was his due. The larger horse was a little more spirited, tossing his head when approached before deigning to have his nose stroked. Lovely to see.

Picked copious quantities of broad beans again, so many that the pastic bag was so full I had to carry it on the handlebars not in the pannier, so heavy that the handles of the bag torn on the way home and it was only quick reactions that saved the contents from being spilled all over the road.

Another good haul of strawberries too and the first pickings of mangetout too. So it was beans and peas with the rissotto and strawberries and ice cream for pudding tonight. And the first bottle of this year's elderflower champagne. Only been bottled 3 weeks but already fizzy, perhaps a little too sweet but given time more could be converted to alcohol. Much better than last year's effort which was very dry and very explosive.

A busy day planned for tomorrow - a rugby referees meeting then home to pack and prepare for next week's trip to Amsterdam to celebrate my birthday.
