Shine the light
This is the old beacon from Fullerton Municipal Airport. It has been replaced but it served for many years as the visual navigational aid that led many pilots into safe harbor at Fullerton AIrport. The beacon flashed white and green in an alternating pattern signifying that it was a civilian land airport as opposed to a military or sea airport. On a clear, sunny day you wouldn't see the flashes. You wouldn't need to, as you could find the airport just fine. It is used for night and when the visibility is less than 3 miles. That is when we need help finding our way home. There are probably many analogies you could think of to go along with shining a light, or being the light. I just know that as a pilot it is as comforting to have that beacon leading me home to the airport, as it is to have good friends and family shine their light so I can find my way too.
