The Black Fort

The Black Fort ( Dun Ducathair ) was the most wonderous hill fort I ever been to, set high up on vertical cliffs, with a narrow path, (I didn't dare look down ), around the vast stone wall and onto a black limestone promontory. The smell of sweet clover hung in the air and we enjoyed an explore and a picnic! What an incredible location to live, with views to the mainland and out to the Atlantic.
This was the second hill fort of the day, the other being Dun Eochla, later we cycled then walked to the tiny oratory of Teampall Bheanain, magical.
