On Your Bike
To avoid the crowds, I walked to the ancient hill fort of Dun Aonghasa at 7am, what an incredible location and amazing undertaking to construct those walls, the inner one being 20 foot high and 18 feet thick and looking out onto a 270 foot cliff!
We have hired bikes for our stay and it's more than twenty years since I cycled anywhere! luckily the terrain is gently undulating so it was just great. We headed of to another fort on the western side of the island Dun Eoghanachta, when the road became to bumpy for the bikes we abandoned them and continued on foot across the limestone pavements with regular stops to look at flowers. The views from the forts are amazing and one can see why these locations where chosen!
Gave the legs a rest in the afternoon and relaxed and paddled at Kilmurvey beach, Rachel had a quick dip very brave as the water was freezing.
Another cycle before supper to the worm hole a natural swimming pool in the black limestone, with high cliffs towering above it. This place will be where the world cliff diving championships will be held next week, rather them than me!
Hard to choose just one photo but I. Liked this one of Rachel on her bike.
