To Travel Through Huddersfield

I very dimly remember Huddersfield from my youth. All the buildings were black. There were plenty of mills but certainly no university.

Here you see the Huddersfield Narrow canal striking a rather unusual pose. When it came to reconstruct the canal it was necessary to sink it underground in order to circumvent the buildings that had been erected along the line of its former course.

Although this section of the canal simply now runs in a concrete channel, someone has given some thought to making the steel re-inforcing seen here, pleasing on the eye.
