Greenhouse in #Embu #Kenya

Thanks to the Rotary Club of Hart, IMPACT have been able to erect a greenhouse at a primary school in Embu, Kenya.

IMPACT has been working in Embu District for several years now implementing community health initiatives to prevent and treat needless disability. As part of our health programme in Embu, IMPACT had already installed water tanks for use at the school.

After the installation of the borehole IMPACT decided to install a greenhouse in the school grounds to help improve children's nutrition.

Pupils are able to use surplus water from the borehole to tend to produce in the greenhouse and to look after crops; benefitting their diet and combatting malnutrition. Plants to be grown include leafy nutritious green vegetables such as kale to increase the intake of vitamins K and C and is also rich in calcium.

Construction of the greenhouses means that the school will be able to grow crops on a large scale. Produce will boost the children’s vitamin intake and their diets, and any surplus can be sold and invested back into the school!
