Picnic at Vogrie. Play in the park. Ice lolly. Two trips on the train (one with Daddy and one with Grandad). DVD at Granny's. A perfect Sunday for a 3 year old boy. It was all a bit too much in the end and poor Arlo was sick as a dog when we got home and tucked up sound asleep by 7pm.

2004 and the exciting artists of the preceding years are now well established as the alternative mainstream (if that makes any sense), although for one reason or another Selfish Cunt never made it onto top of the pops. A second generation of chart bothers were also building up with Bloc Party, Franz Ferdinand and The Futureheads all growing in stature. All well and good, but for me all releases in 2004 were eclipsed by the genius that is La Ritournelle by Sebastian Tellier - massive sweeping strings growing and growing until the lovelorn vocals kick in at 3:57 and the whole track swoons. Tracey and myself were so in love with this track that we lifted the "Love is to Share. Mine is for You" section of the lyrics for inclusion in the wedding vows. 100% the best track by a eurovision song contest artist, don't be coming round here with your Abba this and Abba that nonsense.
