Coffee to Go

I had another great bike ride to work today and beat my time from Monday - I did it in 33 minutes. I really can't think of a better way to travel to work, although I wasn't saying that on my ride home when I was cycling into a head wind. I was travelling at a steady 13 mph on my way, but I couldn't get above 8 mph on my way home and it was really difficult. Once I got to Rottingdean I called Alan and asked him if he could meet me at the Lido car park in Saltdean and put the bike in the back of the car - I just couldn't face the hill up to our house, my legs were like jelly! Anyway, I still cycled 10.2 miles in total and according to my App, I burnt over 500 calories, although with the effort coming home I think it was probably more.

At lunch time I walked into town as my colleague Tannie told me there was a sale on at the outdoor shop Mountain Warehouse and that they had cycle accessories. I managed to get a very lightweight, bright pink jacket that's wind and shower proof, and also a pair of cycling trousers with detachable inner shorts that have a padded bottom. I tried the trousers out coming home and the padding certainly helped.

On my way back to the office at lunch time, I went to have a look at the new Red Box coffee shop that's opened up in two old telephone boxes. It's been started by a local charity that helps homeless people, and apparently they bought the phone boxes from British Telecom for £1 each under the Adopt a Kiosk scheme. They are the first boxes to be used in this way and you can buy tea, coffee, hot chocolate and ice creams to take away, with 10% of every purchase going to the charity Friends First. I was chatting to the girl who runs it - she said it's open every day from 10am - 6pm and if it takes off, they'll probably buy more boxes throughout the country. I didn't buy anything today as it was hot and I was heading back to the office, but I'll try a hot chocolate from there some time, or even an ice cream. I think it's a great idea and I hope they do well.
