Peckham Rye Meadow

So pretty I had to stop the car and Blip it.

Peckham Rye is Cockney rhyming slang for necktie. As in 'come on me old china get yer Peckham off and we'll go down the rubber for a Lily'.

Despite living in London for pretty much ever I've only ever known one man who used Cockney rhyming slang in everyday speech and with total fluency, my old boss's chauffeur, Sid, a lovely bloke and a Battersea boy. If I did it it would be utterly ridiculous and I'd probably have to get the next John Wayne out of Joe Brown or maybe just put on my Gloria Gaynors and Botany Bay!
