A city awash with dolphins
Aberdeen is currently awash with bottle nosed dolphins. Fifty life-size, colourful fibre glass dolphins, each painted in a different theme, have been placed at various points around the city. This is Doric Dolphin who lives outside Aberdeen University's Library.
He, or she, has been designed by Aberdeen artist Gabrielle Reith and, appropriately for its location in the precincts of a library, is covered in Scots, Gaelic and Doric (the dialect spoken in the NE of Scotland) words drawn in an illustrative and descriptive typography.
The dolphins will be on display until late August and then each sculpture will be auctioned to raise funds for the ARCHIE Foundation, who help sick children in the North of Scotland, and to support Whale and Dolphins Conservation’s work, protecting local wild dolphins.
Use the binoculars and try your luck with translating the words into Queen's English.
