Noto

Here's the Cathedral in Noto, the most splendid of Sicily's Baroque towns. Noto was destroyed in a catastrophic earthquake in 1693 and the whole town was rebuilt beautifully, 16km South of the original site. We visited the old site, Noto Antica, before driving on to Noto itself today. A hushed, contemplative place of romantic ruins, baking in the heat, guarded by a white cat and dog (yes, real ones). Most odd.

We had a lovely slow food lunch in Noto and some ice cream in the famed Cafe Sicilia and wandered around the palazzos and churches until we were all baroqued out. On the way home we found a little beach to relax on for an hour or so - it was good to just look at the sea...
