Northern Flicker - intergrade
Flickers are part of the woodpecker family.
There are two varieties, or subspecies, of Northern Flickers; red shafted and yellow shafted, referring to the color of their underwing and tail feathers.
The red shafted male has a red mustache, and the yellow shafted has a black mustache along with a red crescent on the nape of his neck.
Here is an example of a mix of the two - red mustache and red spot on the neck.
