On The Pond 4 - Hammer Pond

This is the second of the two ponds that lie side by side in St Leonard's Forest. The history of these ponds was given on the 13th June when I visited Hawkins Pond.

This is the more difficult pond to photograph as the road is very narrow as it passes over the dam or bay as it is known locally. I managed to park carefully with a short walk to the pond as this is not easy. I was glad to leave as there was some kind of caravan event at Horsham Rugby Club. This caused massive problems on this narrow road with big caravans towed by vans and 4WD's trying to find the place they were going to and negotiating unsuitable roads and adding to the congestion on the edge of the town when the schools were emptying out. It was very bad.

I think this pond is possibly the most picturesque and it is a pity in many ways that a public road goes over it to disturb the peace and tranquility. These two lakes are possibly among the finest remants of the Wealden Iron Industry we have.
