The Crew of the Laura Janet
I challenged myself to have a black and white day today in St Annes. This image is of the monument on the South Promenade erected in memory of the crew of the LAURA JANET. The lifeboat crew had gone to render assistance on the 9/10 December 1886 to the German barque MEXICO when it ran aground on Trunk Hill Brow, Ainsdale beach. Thirteen men sailed with the LAURA JANET and all were lost in this terrible tragedy. This has special significance for us because we live in one of the fisherman's cottages where many of these brave men lived in 1886.
