Not pretty enough
These are the Brownies I made for the cake competition in the afternoon, decorated with edible gold leaf - real gold!
After yesterday's giddiness my batteries were flat this morning. I made some ginger flapjacks before school so they were a bit crunchier than usual as I got delayed at drop off. India was very excited to go off on her school trip to the Museum of Science and Industry with her packed lunch. Very grey day and I almost didn't summon the energy for Rusty Racquets, spent ages looking for my racquet which I remembered was in my car with Mark in the Lake District. I was very pleased I did go in the end as we did loads of service practice which I needed.
It took ages to get the edible gold leaf onto the brownies, I collected Heidi and then we went off to Jaynes for a charity coffee and cake afternoon (hard life I know but don't tell Mr.W). We had to mark all the entries out of 5 for 3 categories: appeal, taste and appearance. I knew the brownies weren't going to make it as whilst they taste unbelievable ( I have spent many years honing them) there's not a lot of decoration options available. Another lady made a hazelnut meringue cake which tasted amazing but also was hard to decorate. I came third but the meringue lady pointed out at the end that whilst there was none of my brownies left and just a little bit of her cake left, there was about 3/4 s of the first and second place cakes left! Not that I'm at all competitive. I will win next year.
After pick up we went up to tennis club in the drizzle for a tennis lesson followed by club night (pizza and tennis games). India had an amazing evening playing tennis with friends from 3.45-8pm only stopping for pizza and cake. Heidi and her friends played a bit of tennis and did a lot of running around. Hels and I helped Carole serve behind the bar in the clubhouse which was hilarious, so many of our friends were in the bar and the atmosphere was great. 2 people admitted to not voting at the cake competition as they'd only liked the brownies and thought that would be unfair (they didn't know I'd made them). Then Ang said she hadn't voted either as she was my friend and thought that was cheating. I could have won as there were only 4 points in it (sore loser). We all fell into bed when we got home finally about 8.45pm.
